Sophie graduated from Newcastle University with a first-class degree in Chemistry (MChem) in 2023. During Sophie’s MChem project, she developed an amino-modified polymer immobilised ionic liquid palladium nanoparticle catalyst and investigated its efficiency as a catalyst for the production of hydrogen through formic acid dehydrogenation. Sophie is in her first year of her PhD supervised by Professors Thomas Chamberlain, Frans Muller and Richard Bourne on a project sponsored by Johnson Matthey. Her research involves dissolving gas under high pressures for selective heterogeneously catalysed chemical transformations in continuous flow such as oxidations and hydrogenations.
