On completion of his undergraduate studies Jonathan was awarded the Clothworkers’ Scholarship to begin studying for an MSc at the University of Leeds in Polymers, Colourants and Fine Chemical synthesis. Working under Professor Long Lin in the Colour Science Department, his research focused on developing novel reactive disperse dyes that could be used to dye natural fibres using supercritical carbon dioxide as the dyeing medium.

His project focusses on assessing the potential application of trickle bed reactors in the manufacture of fine chemicals. Specifically, further understanding the mass transfer characteristics of trickle bed reactors and the impact mass transfer has on chemical selectivity during heterogeneous hydrogenations.
