Outreach – Making Gold Coins

At the 2019 University of Leeds ‘Be Curious’ outreach event, we demonstrated the effect of metal coating and alloying has on the appearance of copper coins. Copper coins were coated in a thin layer of zinc, then heated to combine the zinc and copper to make brass giving the coins a golden appearance.
